Delaware State Police Are Investigating a Fatal Tractor Trailer Accident in Middletown, Delaware
MIDDLETON, DE - A truck accident news release posted on dsp.delaware.gov is reporting that the Delaware State Police are currently investigating a fatal vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer truck.*
The fatal crash happened at around 9:55 p.m. last Monday. The collision happened on the exit ramp leading onto Lorewood Grove Road from the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 1.
The preliminary investigation has ascertained that a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia, driven by a 63-year-old man from Coral Springs, Florida, was heading south along Route 1. As the truck driver turned on to the Lorewood Grove Road exit, the Freightliner was unable to make the exit ramp's curve. The truck then rolled over onto the driver's side of the truck and then struck a guardrail. The 18-wheeler then collided with a guardrail causing the truck to roll over onto its roof.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was wearing a seat belt but was tragically killed in the accident. The truck driver was pronounced dead at the accident scene. The man's name is not being released, pending the notification of the driver's next of kin.
The 18-wheeler was hauling a trailer loaded with cargo. The Lorewood Grove Road exit was shut down as the accident was being investigated and cleared. The accident investigation is ongoing, and if you have information concerning the accident, please contact the Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit or Delaware Crime Stoppers.
