More Than One Dozen Motor Vehicles Are Involved in an I-80 Accident in Oil City, Pennsylvania
According to an online news report published on newsonline.com, Interstate 80 eastbound was shut down in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, from the New Castle Exit 4A (Interstate 376 eastbound) to Mercer Exit 15 (Route 19) after several motor vehicle collided.* A driver for a local towing company stated that at least twelve motor vehicles were involved in the Interstate 80 crash.
Law enforcement officers along with the Department of Transportation reduced the speed limit to 45 miles per hour for the rest of Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania. Commercial vehicles were directed to use the right lane only due to the road conditions.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and PennDOT also imposed Level 1 restrictions on all Pennsylvania interstate highways, including the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Pennsylvania's Level 1 restrictions ban the following motor vehicles on affected roadways:
- Motorcycles;
- Tractor-trailer trucks without trailers;
- Trucks towing unloaded or lightly loaded enclosed trailers;
- Truck towing open trailers;
- Trucks towing tank trailers;
- Trucks towing unloaded tandem trailers;
- Trucks towing lightly loaded tandem trailers;
- Enclosed cargo delivery trucks that meet the definition of a CMV;
- Passenger vehicles towing trailers;
- Recreational vehicles, RVs, and motorhomes;
- School buses;
- Commercial buses; and
- Motorcoaches.
There were injuries reported in the multi-vehicle Interstate 80 accident. Law enforcement will continue their investigation of the accident to determine the cause.
