A Sunland Employee Dies After Working Nearly 100 Days Without a Day Off

December 18, 2020

According to an online news report published on mypanhandle.com, a female employee for Sunland in Marianna, Florida, has passed away in an accident that might have been caused by exhaustion brought on by allegedly working 85 days without a day off.* The woman's union representative believes her death was partially caused by exhaustion.

The news report states that the employee, a 64-year-old woman, died two weeks after being involved in a car accident at Sunland.  She died after being placed in a medically-induced coma for nearly two weeks due to injuries sustained in the accident.  Her fellow employees contacted the woman's union representative to tell the representative what had transpired.

The union representative decided to review the worker's timesheets for the past 90 days.  The union representative examined the timesheets and was "appalled by what we saw."  According to the union representative, the victim's timesheet showed that the victim had worked 85 days without a day off.  The union representative also stated that he felt the total number of consecutive workdays was probably "closer to 100 days."  The union representative also alleged that different levels of management review the workers' timesheets, and it seemed unreasonable to believe no one noticed the issue.  He also thinks exhaustion played a part in the worker's accident.
