Decatur Teen Killed in a Tragic Hit-and-run Accident
According to an online news report published by ajc.com, a family reported their 16-year-old son missing when the boy didn’t return home.*
The news report states that the boy was tragically killed early Saturday morning in a horrific hit-and-run accident along Covington Highway. the boy was a talented and introspective young man who enjoyed writing and playing video games.
According to the initial accident investigation, the boy was last seen at a gas station on Covington Highway. He was riding his bicycle. The boy then went missing Saturday afternoon, according to the DeKalb police. The DeKalb police then responded to a call concerning a fatal pedestrian accident that took place at approximately 3 a.m. in the same general area of the gas station, according to Michaela Vincent, the DeKalb police spokeswoman.
The incident report states that the boy was riding his bike along Covington Highway and then was struck by a white vehicle heading eastbound along Covington Highway by South Indian Creek Drive. The motor vehicle knocked the boy off of his bicycle and to the side of the highway. The boy likely sustained a severe head injury.
The hit-and-run driver fled the accident scene before the police arrived. Information about the vehicle’s make and model was not released.
Law enforcement investigators believe the white car that struck the boy will have damage to the right front side of the vehicle. The Dekalb Police are asking the public to provide any information that they might have about the accident to help investigators catch the driver. Tips may also be given to Crime Stoppers.
