Tragic Crash Kills One on Downtown Connector in Atlanta, Georgia (GA)

November 08, 2020

ATLANTA, GA- 11alive.com writes that a crash led to one fatality on the downtown connector in Atlanta, Georgia.*

The incident occurred close to North Avenue in the midafternoon. Two cars reportedly crashed with a motorcycle. The victim, who was riding the motorcycle at the time, died at the scene. The other two drivers involved in the wreck both sustained severe injuries and are being treated at the Grady Memorial Hospital. According to the authorities, Atlanta police sent the hit-and-run unit to the scene of the crash. The investigation is still underway. Reports did not indicate the cause of the deadly collision or who was at fault.*

Motorcycle crashes often caused devastating and even fatal injuries to motorcyclists, even in situations where drivers involved suffered minor injuries or were unharmed. Some of the more common types of motorcycle accidents involve drivers who fail to pay attention to motorcycles on the road. Motorcycle enthusiasts point out that the most common crash for these riders involves a driver in a larger vehicle turning left and violating the right of way of an oncoming motorcycle.

According to motorcyclists, drivers often fail to see motorcycles or fail to correctly gauge the speed of their smaller vehicles. Although the motorcyclist is not responsible for causing these crashes, it is in the motorcyclist's best interest to learn how to avoid being involved in these collisions. Cars waiting to turn left should be viewed by motorcyclists as a life-threatening threat. Some motorcycles say the best thing to do is look at the car's wheels as it will give you the first indication that the driver intends to move. If you have to take evasive action, keep in mind that if there's a car right behind you, you could avoid the crash with the left turning vehicle only to be rear-ended. Never lay down the bike, as the best chance of avoiding fatal injuries might be simply to slow down as much as possible.
