Man Placed Under Arrest for Causing Tragic Accident Resulting in the Death of an Infant and Teenager
ATLANTA, GA –cbs46.com writes that a man from Cobb County was arrested for his role in causing a fatal high-speed crash that claimed the lives of an infant and teenager.*
According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), the crash happened in Midtown Atlanta at the intersection of 10th Street and Techwood Drive in the late evening hours. The GSP indicates that a trooper caught two automobiles speeding on Interstate 75 close to Howell Mill Road and was able to catch up with one of the cars, a black BMW coupe, which was travelling at more than 120 miles per hour. Police attempted to pull over the driver of the BMW, however, he refused to stop, which resulted in a high speed chase close to other vehicles on the roadway. In a matter of seconds, the driver of the BMW exited his vehicle onto 17th Street and continued to speed to 10th Street where he became involved in a crash with a Nissan Altima and two other automobiles.
After the crash, the driver of the BMW exited his vehicle and fled the scene of the accident. Two individuals in the Altima, a teenage female age eighteen, and another male, an infant aged three months, both died in the accident.
At the time when the accident occurred, the GSP indicated that they were unable to release to the public the name of the driver of the BMW until he was apprehended. However, on October 23, 2020, the GPS provided that the driver, a 28-year-old male from Marietta, was placed under arrest in Cobb County for charges related to stolen credit cards. During the arrest that occurred in Cobb County, law enforcement was able to ascertain that the driver was connected to the deaths of the infant and teenager.
Per the GSP, it indicated that the BWM driver was caught on a surveillance camera leaving the scene of the accident. Because criminal charges are pending, the surveillance video of the accident will not be released to the public.
