Injuries Reported in Crash on Bobby Jones Expressway in Richmond County, Georgia (GA)
RICHMOND COUNTY, GA - Wjbf.com writes that four vehicles were involved in a collision on Bobby Jones Expressway this week close to Sandbar Ferry Road.*
The collision started when a motorist struck a deer. The driver in the vehicle that collided with the deer exited that vehicle, and another car struck the individual leading to a chain reaction crash. One vehicle reportedly overturned in that accident. Two individuals suffered injuries in the crash, and responders transported both to local hospitals for treatment.
Chain reaction crashes are sometimes severe and fatal collisions. These incidents frequently take place when drivers are traveling in conditions with poor visibility. In these instances, drivers may travel too close to other vehicles, increasing the risk of multiple vehicle wrecks in the event that something goes wrong. Other times, unexpected roadway hazards can lead to chain-reaction crashes. Sharp curves, black ice, and other dangers can create these issues. Of course, it is important to remember that when traveling at high speeds, cars require a significant amount of time and distance to come to a complete stop.
Many roads have high-speed limits, which means that drivers should allow for a large amount of space between their vehicle and the vehicle ahead of them. One problem created by chain reaction crashes is that injury risks increase when vehicles are struck multiple times. For instance, safety features, such as airbags, typically only deploy once. Subsequent impacts will leave vehicle occupants without many vehicle safety protections.
When people exit their vehicles, they are placed at risk of being struck while outside of their cars. This, too, can create a higher risk of injuries and fatalities. Drivers can help protect themselves from being involved in these collisions by ensuring that they travel at reasonable speeds, slow down when road conditions warrant a lower speed, and provide plenty of distance between their vehicle and other cars on the road.
