One Tragically Killed in an Accident on Denton Avenue in Holiday, Florida (FL)

October 14, 2020

HOLIDAY, FL- Tampabay.com writes that a crash occurred this week between a pickup truck and a large tractor-trailer that left one person dead.*

The incident happened on Denton Avenue in the morning when the pickup truck driver veered across the center line and into oncoming traffic. The driver in the pickup attempted to veer back into his lane, and at the same time, the driver in the semi tried to avoid the impact by swerving into the eastbound lanes. The two vehicles collided head-on, and the impact killed the driver in the pickup truck.

The investigation is still underway, and the police are not yet sure why the victim drifted into oncoming traffic. The authorities did not release the name of the man killed in the collision but stated that he was a 45-year-old from Holiday. The truck driver is a 60-year-old Brookdale man.

Head-on impacts are some of the deadliest collisions that occur on the road, and according to one study, and the most likely to result in deaths. It is frightening to think that all that the mistakes that drivers make that cause them to enter oncoming traffic occur in the blink of an eye. On many roads throughout the nation, the only thing separating the traffic lanes are pained lines on the pavement. A distracted driver, or someone going too fast around a curve, can easily veer left of center leading to a deadly wreck.

Studies show that if the vehicles involved are traveling at just 43 miles per hour, the risk of that collision resulting in fatal injuries to one or more occupants is high. Even more frightening is the fact that drivers who are paying attention may not be able to avoid such collisions because they will not have time to make an evasive move once a car enters their lane.
