Crash Injures Four on Highway 29 in Cantonment in Florida (FL)

October 12, 2020

CANTONMENT, FL- Northescambia.com writes that a crash took place involving two vehicles in Cantonment this week in Florida. Responders reportedly rushed one of the injured victims to the hospital under a trauma alert.

Three other people sustained injuries that are not life-threatening. The authorities identified the vehicles as a Dodge Ram 2500 and a Hyundai Genesis. Images show severe damage to the driver's side of the Hyundai and the front of the Dodge.*

Side-impact crashes often occur at intersections. These questions are some of the most devastating on the road. One study conducted in Georgia found that side-impact crashes cause more fatalities and injuries than any other intersection collisions. Although head-on collisions are more deadly, side impacts occur more frequently. All that needs to happen for a side-impact collision to occur is for a driver to run through a red traffic signal or a stop sign. This happens more than many drivers realize.

Studies indicate that the safest form of intersections are those that do not rely on traffic lights or stop signs from controlling driver behavior. Roundabouts drastically decrease the number of fatal crashes that occur add an intersection when they are used to replace a cross-section. When roundabouts are installed, drivers must reduce their speed, and all vehicles are traveling in the same direction. These two factors eliminate many of the crash risks presented by traditional intersection design. Pedestrians also fare better when roundabouts are used in place of intersections controlled the traffic lights or stop signs. Drivers often are concerned that roundabouts are confusing or that they will limit the flow of traffic. Studies suggest that these fears are not warranted. In fact, traffic flows are improved when roundabouts are used in place of traditional intersection designs.
