Tragic Crash Kills Three Teens on Six Flags Parkway in Cobb County, Georgia (GA)

September 02, 2020

COBB COUNTY, GA- Ajc.com writes that a crash took place in Cobb County this week on Six Flags Parkway in the late evening. The incident occurred close to Queensferry Drive.*

The driver was identified as a 21-year-old from Jonesboro, who was operating a Chrysler 200. The car overturned on a curve in the road. Reports state that the driver was traveling too fast at the time.

The car then collided with a tree, causing the Chrysler to roll over. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on the north side of the roadway.

A passenger in the back of the car died on the scene, and two teens who were in the back of the car were rushed to WellStar Medical Center where they died a short while after the collision.

The driver was injured in the crash, but his injuries are not considered life-threatening. A 21-year-old man was in the front passenger seat and survived the crash as well. That individual then fled the scene on foot.

Police later located the passenger who had fled. That individual had an outstanding warrant and was taken into custody.

Investigators are looking into how the three victims ended up in contact with the driver and the passenger. No identities were given for the three teens who died, but it appears that all of them were from Ohio.

Police are requesting that anyone with information regarding the collision contact investigators.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is writing that while 2.1 percent crashes involve a car rolling over, about 35 percent of all fatalities caused by crashes are the result of rollovers.

The NHTSA states that seatbelts are the best way to reduce the risk of death from a rollover crash. One study indicated 69 percent of those killed in rollovers were not buckled at the time.
