August 25, 2020

MARIETTA, GA - August 24, 2020 - According to an online news report, a man, age 84, was severely injured on Sunday morning during a multi-vehicle collision in Marietta, Georgia. According to the Marietta police, the multi-vehicle crash involved at least four motor vehicles near the intersection of Dallas Circle and Whitlock Avenue. The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 in the morning, according to Officer Chuck McPhilamy, spokesperson for the Marietta police.

The 84-year-old Marietta man, who police claim was driving a Toyota Avalon was heading eastbound on Whitlock Avenue. Three other motor vehicles, a Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Malibu, and a Dodge Charger, were moving westbound along Whitlock Avenue. The cars were part of a motor club, according to Marietta police officer Chuck McPhilamy.

Marietta police investigators stated that the 84-year-old Marietta man received "life-threatening injuries."

The car club members explained to accident investigators they the group was divided by traffic lights. The car club members stated that they had been passing other motor vehicles while attempting to rejoin the rest of the group. Eyewitnesses told the Marietta police investigators that the car club members were passing other motor vehicles in a no-passing zone. The new report states that the car club member in the Dodge Charger, 41-year-old man from Austell, allegedly illegally crossed the highway's double yellow line. According to Marietta police officer Chuck McPhilamy, the Dodge Charger driver failed to complete the pass, and he collided with an 84-year-old man. After the collision, the Dodge Charger then whirled into the rear end of the Chevy Malibu. Then the driver in the Toyota Avalon continued heading eastbound, and then the driver crashed into the Ford Mustang.

Marietta police officer Chuck McPhilamy stated that the 84-year-old man was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, and he sustained "potentially life-threatening injuries."

Marietta police have not filed any charges until accident investigation has been completed.
