Tragic Crash Kills on Rockbridge Road in Gwinnett County, Georgia (GA)
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA- Ajc.com writes that a motorcyclist died in a crash this week during the evening in Gwinnett County. A passenger on the motorcycle suffered injuries in the collisions as well.*
Reports indicate that the victim, identified as a 22-year-old man, died at the scene of the wreck. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, which was on Rockbridge Road at Tug Drive, and transported the severely injured passenger to the hospital. No information was released regarding the cause of the tragic collision.
Motorcycles are dangerous as compared to enclosed vehicles. Risks to riders are far greater than those to occupants of cars or SUVs. Another issue is that motorcycles are less stable, and therefore more inclined to crash than are cars and other vehicles that have four wheels.
However, even a motorcyclist with excellent skills cannot control the risks imposed by other drivers who may fail to notice a motorcycle due to the smaller vehicle’s size. There is a greater risk of motorcycles falling into a larger car’s blind spot leading to other drivers cutting off these motorists. In some cases, they are simply overlooked for no apparent reason, which is often the case when a car turns left in from of the motorcycle.
As a result of all of the risks that these motorists face on the road, motorcyclists are about 27 times as likely to be killed than would be a person in a car.
Motorcyclists can cut down on the risks they face by driving cautiously, wearing helmets, and wearing bright colors to increase the chances of being noticed on the road. Helmets, in particular, are a wise choice because they prevent fatal injuries by about 37 percent and are even better at warding off traumatic brain injuries.
