I-75 Tractor-Trailer Truck Accident With Injuries in South Perry, Georgia GA

PERRY, GEORGIA - According to an online news report posted on, there was a serious car accident on I-75 South in Perry, Georgia.  The tractor-trailer truck accident with injuries occurred at the South Perry Parkway exit on Saturday.*

The accident left one person injured.  According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the tractor-trailer truck accident blocked both lanes of I-75 South.  According to Chris Stoner, the Houston County Fire Chief, a car was wedged under an 18-wheeler truck during the accident.  The driver was trapped under the tractor-trailer truck and emergency crews were able to remove her from her car.  She was transported to the  her out of the Navicent hospital by the Houston EMS.  There is no word as to the woman's condition. 

The Houston County fire department cleared the accident scene and traffic through the exit was resumed.  The Houston County Fire Chief stated that the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.  The Houston County Fire Chief stated that the Georgia State Patrol was working to move the truck and the GDOT stated that the wreck would be cleared by around 7 p.m.  

According to a study published by, strong side under-ride guards mounted on tractor-trailer trucks could potentially reduce personal injury risks by about three-fourths or more.  When a motor vehicle crashes into the side of a truck, the accident could cause a fatality or serious personal injury to a motor vehicle occupants. 

Federal law does require large trucks to mount rear underride guards, but there are no laws reacuiring side underride guards on large trucks.  So far, there are about three major U.S. cities that require side under-ride guards- New York, Boston, and Seattle.  The local regulations only apply to city-owned and trucks contracted as part of the Vision Zero initiative to eliminate crash injuries and deaths.
