Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Two on Highway 61 in Murray County, Georgia (GA)
MURRAY COUNTY, GA- Timesfreepress.com writes that a crash occurred this week in Murray County on Highway 61 that left two people dead. The incident happened close to the intersection with Hooker Road. The Georgia State Patrol reports that two vehicles were involved in the crash.*
A witness informed the police that a red Mustang was traveling in front of a silver sedan. The silver car crashed into the back of the Mustang multiple times and then pulled nest to the Ford and ran it off the roadway onto the shoulder.
The driver of the Mustang then lost control of his car, and it began to spin. The vehicle then rolled over and collided with a tree before stopping upright. The badly damaged vehicle spread debris through the air and into a nearby home.
Two people were in the Mustang during the dramatic collision, and both were killed in the wreck. Police identified the individuals as a nineteen-year-old boy and a twenty-year-old woman, both of whom were declared dead at the scene.
The witness stated that the man in the silver car appeared to be very tall and that he had short dark hair.
The sedan fled the scene of the collision, and police have not yet located that driver. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident.
The AAA writes that hit-and-run crashes are on the rise in the United States and that the number of fatalities caused by such collisions increased 60 percent from 2009 through 2016.
The victims in deadly hit-and-runs are most likely to be pedestrians and cyclists. States with the highest numbers of fatal hit-and-runs include New Mexico, Louisiana, and Florida.
