Crash Injures Two on Georgia 186 in Walton County, Georgia (GA)
WALTON COUNTY, GA- The waltontribune.com writes that three people involved in a crash in Walton County suffered critical injuries this week, while another individual was also injured. The incident occurred on Georgia 186 in the afternoon.*
The people involved included three youths and one adult. Two of the victims were transported via airlift. The collision led to the closure of the highway, and motorists were told to avoid the area. Car crashes are the number one cause of death for American children. Most of these incidents are completely preventable.
Many of the children killed in crashes are not buckled up at the time. In fact, in 2017, 35 percent of the victims were not using any restraints at the time of the crash. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that children who ride with adults who are not buckled up are more likely to not be restrained. In fact, 40 percent of children traveling in cars with drivers who were not using their seatbelts were not using a seatbelt or child restraint.
Sadly, many well-intentioned parents and caregivers do not properly buckle in their children. About 46 percent of car seats are not correctly installed, which can lower the capacity of the car seat to protect the child in the event of a crash.
Once children start to drive, the risks increase. In 2017, six teenagers between sixteen and nineteen years old died in vehicle collisions every day in the United States. Of course, many more suffered injuries in crashes. Teen drivers about three times as likely to be in a deadly wreck as are drivers above nineteen years old.
