District Attorney Recovering from Head-On Crash on State Route 135 in Alapaha, Georgia (GA)

July 19, 2020

ALAPAHA, GA- writes that a District Attorney in Georgia is now in good condition following a severe head-on collision that occurred this week in Alapaha. Two members of the DA’s family, including a ten-year-old boy, were also in the car at the time of the crash.*

The DA and the child were transported to Tift Regional Medical Center immediately after the incident but were later both transferred to other facilities. Updates indicate that the child has now been released from the hospital.

The original impact occurred overnight when the DA’s family member was driving a 2017 Buick southbound on State Road 135. At that time, a 2003 Chevrolet driven by a 30-year-old man was traveling northbound, also on State Road 135.

The Chevrolet crossed left of center, and the two vehicles collided.

According to the woman driving the Buick, she saw the Chevrolet and attempted to swerve to avoid the oncoming vehicle. The woman stated that the Chevrolet had no headlights on at the time of the incident. The driver was also hospitalized after the crash but has now been discharged.

The driver who caused the crash is now facing multiple charges, including injury by vehicle, failure to maintain lane, driving without a license, driving under the influence, and driving without headlights.

The risk of being in a crash increases when drivers have blood alcohol contents (BAC) of .05 percent per volume, and rise more quickly for motorists with BACs of .08 or greater. It is against the law in all parts of the country to operate a vehicle with a BAC of .08 or higher, and in Utah, the legal limit is just .05 percent.
