Crash Injures Three on Conley Road in Clayton County, Georgia (GA)

July 19, 2020

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA- writes that a crash occurred in Clayton County, Georgia, that caused three people to sustain injuries. According to the county police, the incident occurred because a driver failed to stop at a stop sign.*

The wreck took place at the intersection of Old Conley Road and Conley Road in the morning. Police then shut the intersection down and informed drivers to avoid the area. Reports indicate that the impact was head-on. Three people sustained injuries, and two of those individuals are in serious condition.

In general, intersections can be dangerous because traffic is traveling in so many different directions. Studies show that in cases where roundabouts are used to replace traditional intersections, the risk of crashes drops significantly.

One study found that overall crashes dropped by 37 percent, and that injury-causing collision declined by 75 percent. The biggest reduction, however, was in fatal collisions, which were found to be 90 percent less likely when roundabouts are used in the place of a crossroads-style intersection.

Pedestrians also fair better at roundabouts than they do at traditional intersections. The number of pedestrian collisions declines by 40 percent when roundabouts are installed.

The reasons roundabouts are safer include the fact that vehicles are moving slowly, no one is trying to make it through a traffic light, and all of the cars are traveling in the same direction.

While many people suspect that these traffic features will take more time and be inefficient, the study also found that they reduce congestion and move traffic through the area more quickly than intersections controlled by signals or signs.
