One Killed in Tragic Crash on US 431 in Albertville, Georgia (GA)

July 09, 2020

ALBERTVILLE, GA- Sandmountainreporter.com writes that a crash occurred in Albertville this week that left one person dead. The incident involved four vehicles that collided on US 431 close to HT Greer Road.*

According to investigations, a man from Albertville was traveling southbound in a 2012 Chevy Malibu, and a woman from Georgia in a 2017 Toyota Prius was also heading southbound. The two cars collided, and the Prius was pushed into the northbound traffic lanes. Two other cars then collided with the Prius killing the driver of that car. The two vehicles that struck the Prius in the northbound lanes were an Infinity SUV and a Toyota 4-Runner. After colliding with the Infinity, the Prius flipped over and then was struck by the Toyota. The driver in the Infinity, along with his wife and two children, were all reportedly injured in the incident as well.

The family’s injuries are not life-threatening, but responders transported them all to the Huntsville Hospital. The crash left the highway covered in debris, and crews worked for hours to clear the scene. Drivers in the area were directed to take HT Greer Road to avoid the crash site.

Police had difficulties locating the family of the victim as she was from out of state. It took them well into the evening to find contact information for the victim’s sister to notify her of the crash.

The woman appears to have been in the area working on a piece of property that she had purchased with her partner. The couple had been looking to move to Alabama once they retired.

The victim’s partner came to the police station at about the same time that the officers had found and contacted the woman’s sister. So far, charges have not been filed in relation to the fatal crash. When questioned about whether they anticipated filing charges, officers stated that it is too soon to say.
