Large Truck Crash Reported on Interstate 75, in Dooly County, Georgia (GA)

June 29, 2020

DOOLY COUNTY, GA- According to, a crash between two large trucks led to a closure of all lanes on Interstate 75. The incident occurred in the northbound lanes close to the Georgia 215 interchange. The wreck led to long traffic delays near Cordele.*

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has a program designed to handle the cleanup of this type of collision. The Towing, Recovery, and Incentive Program (TRIP) has existed for over ten years in the Atlanta area. Under TRIP, GDOT pays a bonus to private wrecking companies if they are able to clear the scene of a truck accident in one and a half hours or less. The $3,500 bonus has been so successful in incentivizing the rapid removal of truck crash debris that the program will likely be extended to all parts of the state.

Georgia is home to a large amount of truck traffic, and the volume of freight being transported throughout the state is on the rise. With increasing traffic comes more crashes. When trucks are involved in a collision, the traffic begins to back up rapidly. Heavy traffic in the area is often caused by crashes. One official stated that these incidents lead to about 50 percent of the traffic congestion in the state.

Prior to TRIP, the average time required to clear the scene of a truck crash was four and a half hours. Now it takes under two and a half hours in the Atlanta area. Not only are companies prioritizing truck accidents, but they are also now making sure that they have the necessary equipment on hand and ready to respond in the event of a crash.
