Lake Sinclair Boat Crash Leaves Child in Critical Condition

June 09, 2020

MILLEDGEVILLE, GA- The unionrecorder.com writes that a child was involved in a serious crash while riding an inner tube on Lake Sinclair. A pontoon boat was pulling the child and others on an innertube when another boat struck the innertube. The eleven-year-old sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Macon for treatment.*

An investigating officer states that the victim is lucky to be alive after being pulled under another boat and struck by the vessel's propeller. The officer stated that most accidents involving propellers are deadly. The child suffered broken bones and multiple severe lacerations on her right leg but survived the ordeal.

According to a Facebook post from the victim's mother, the child suffered a broken femur and also broke her ankle.

The investigator stated that the two vessels approached one another at what is called the Junction. The area is the main hub of Lake Sinclair, which is located near the mouth of Little River and the Oconee River.

It is not yet clear whether any charges will be filed against either of the individuals operating the pontoons. Police stated that the incident is still being investigated and that it could take a week or so before they learn what happened. Reports have not yet included the names of the people operating the boats.

At this time, alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash, but it is not clear whether speed may have contributed to the incident.

The area is known as being busy with a great deal of boat traffic. The Department of Natural Resources is working on the investigation.
