Waterslide Accident Paralyzes Teacher in Richmond Hill, Georgia (GA)
RICHMOND HILL, GA- Wtoc.com writes that a teacher was paralyzed in an accident involving a waterslide in Richmond Hill. The victim is in the ICU, where she is recovering from her injuries. The incident left her paralyzed from the chest down. A surgical procedure improved her condition and restored some movement to her arms.*
The woman’s husband spends much of his time with his injured wife at Memorial Health and stated that he remains positive and optimistic, noting that the situation could have been worse. While the outlook was grim on the day of the incident, the fact that she has already recovered some movement in her arms is an encouraging sign.
A friend of the victim discussed the tragedy stating that just before the incident, the woman was having fun, laughing, and in the matter of an instant, she suffered a life-altering injury.
The incident occurred at a neighborhood event where an inflatable waterslide had been set up for the children. The victim was playing with the kids when one of the children collided with her, causing the traumatic injuries.
The family set up a GoFundMe page to help support the woman and a blog that is helping keep friends and family up to date on her progress. The response has shown how many people are there to offer love and support.
The family is hoping that the woman will be able to move to a rehabilitation center located in Atlanta.
Inflatable slides and similar structures present risks, especially if they are not properly erected. It is important that fall areas are padded and that these devices are used as intended and with caution.
