Motorcyclist Killed in Tragic Crash with Semi-Truck
MIDGEVILLE, GA- 13wmaz.com writes that a crash involving a semi-truck and a motorcycle left one person dead in Baldwin County during the afternoon this week. The incident took place on Highway 24 when the motorcyclist was traveling northbound in the right lane, and the semi was in the left lane. The truck attempted to make a right turn into a driveway but failed to see the motorcyclist in the right lane. The motorcyclist collided with the right side of the truck, and both of the vehicles ended up in the driveway.
The victim had become pinned beneath the semi and was declared dead at the scene of the crash. The collision is still being investigated, and the Special Collision Reconstruction Team was reportedly working on the site. The victim was identified as a 49-year-old man who was operating a Honda CBR 500 at the time of the wreck. The driver was a 46-year-old man from Alabama. Police have not yet stated what if any charges will be filed in relation to the wreck.

While fatal motorcycle crashes have decreased, motorcyclists still account for a disproportionately large number of deaths on the road each year. While only three percent of registered vehicles are motorcycles, fourteen percent of those killed are motorcyclists. When compared to people traveling in cars, motorcyclists are about 28 times as likely to die.
Drivers of larger vehicles must be cautious when it comes to preventing crashes with motorcycles as well. Visibility is often a problem because motorcycles are smaller than other vehicles on the roadway.
