MIAMI BEACH, FL- Wsvn.com writes that one person died in a boat accident that occurred this week in Miami Beach. The victim was a 26-year-old man who was reportedly ejected when two vessels collided. The incident occurred in the late evening close to Star Island and Monument Island.*
One other person was injured in the crash and was taken to the Mount Sinai Medical Center, where they received treatment for injuries that are not considered life-threatening. A man called the police and stated that his son was missing following the crash. Responders arrived on the scene, and divers were able to locate the victim. Responders transported the young man to the Jackson Memorial Hospital, where his condition was reported as “very serious.”
One of the calls stated that the crash was a hit-and-run, but police stated that they are not currently sure what caused the deadly wreck. Both of the vessels involved in the crash have been impounded, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is leading the investigation.

The state with the next highest numbers was Texas, where 35 people lost their lives. The leading category for boat accidents was falling overboard, which led to 23 out of 65 deaths in Florida in 2019. The most common cause of death in these tragic incidents was drowning. Last year 66 percent of people killed in boat crashes died by drowning while nineteen percent died from traumatic injuries. Alcohol played a role in ten of the accidents last year.
