Two Injured in Plane Crash in Hampton, Georgia (GA)

May 13, 2020

HAMPTON, GA- writes that a prop plane crashed in Henry County this week, injuring two people. The aircraft came down in a wooded area close to State Route 20 and Bear Creek Boulevard. Reports from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) state that the plane was a Cessna 402 that came down in the mid-afternoon.*

Reports have not yet included the cause of the wreck, but the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are working to understand what transpired. The Henry County Police arrived on the scene, and responders transported the two occupants to the Grady Memorial Hospital where they are both being treated. The authorities have not released any statements regarding the condition of the victims. No information was provided about the location where the plane took off or where the victims were traveling to at the time of the crash. The site where the plane was located was about two miles from the Henry County. The Atlanta Motor Speedway is also nearby.

Small private planes present a much higher risk than that created by commercial planes. Over the years, commercial planes have become safer, while private plane crash fatalities have increased. The NTSB states that accidents involving personal flights rose by twenty percent in recent years, and fatalities caused by these crashes increased 25 percent.

The most common reported cause of these small aircraft crashes is pilot error. These incidents may decline thanks to improving technology in modern small planes. The FAA also stated that more needs to be done to inform pilots of the risks of flying while taking prescription medication. Officials are trying to encourage pilots to ensure that their skills are kept current.
