Drunk Driver Causes Tragic Crash in Ringgold, Georgia (GA)

May 13, 2020

RINGGOLD, GA- writes that a victim was killed in a crash caused by a drunk driver in Ringgold. The wreck occurred in the early afternoon on US 41 close to Clearview Drive. The victim was identified as a 32-year-old man, who was a passenger in the suspect's vehicle. The woman who was driving was a 32-year-old from Dalton.*

Reports indicate that the woman crossed the centerline of the road and collided with another car head-on. Two people were in the other vehicle. Those individuals were identified as a 58-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman who were both also from Dalton. Responders rushed the couple in the car that was struck to the Erlanger Medical Center. The condition of those two individuals is not currently known.

The road was reopened by the later afternoon. Police are still carrying out the investigation but stated that the woman is facing multiple charges.

Every year more than 10,000 people are killed in the United States in car crashes caused by drunk drivers. The numbers average out to about 30 people every day or one victim every 50 minutes.

While the number of such wrecks has dropped significantly over the past 30 years, these preventable tragedies still create a common danger.

Alcohol severely impairs a person's ability to safely operate a car. Every state has a limit of .08 percent alcohol per volume for drivers, but even below that level, alcohol can impact a driver's ability. At just .05 percent alcohol per volume, a person is less alert, has impaired judgment, loss of ability to focus their eyes, and other effects that can make driving dangerous.
