Chain Reaction Crash in Marietta Leads to Severe Injuries
MARIETTA, GA- Cbs46.com writes that a chain-reaction crash was reported in Marietta this week that led to severe injuries. The incident occurred overnight in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 close to the Canton Road Connector exit ramp.*
Reports indicate that a man in a Kia Rio LX stopped his vehicle on the interstate, and a driver traveling behind him in a GMC Sierra C2500 struck the back of his stopped car.
The impact caused the truck to leave the road. Just moments after the first impact, a man in a Mazda CX-5 also struck the back of the Kia. According to investigators, the driver in the Kia was a 25-year-old man from Marietta. The two collisions left him with severe life-threatening injuries. Responders transported to the victim to the WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the truck was identified as a 56-year-old Marietta man, and the man driving the Mazda was a 29-year-old from Rome. There was also a passenger in the truck at the time of the crash.
Police have not yet filed charges against any of the drivers involved in the collision. The incident is still being investigated. Police are requesting that anyone who witnessed the accident contact the Marietta S.T.E.P. investigator.
In recent years, Georgia has reported a drop in car crash deaths. The state saw a 2.3 percent drop between 2018 and 2017. The previous year also saw a decline in collision-related fatalities.
While the numbers are encouraging, more than 1,500 people still died in car crashes in the state in 2018. Officials say that Georgia’s hands-free law is working, but that more road-safety work is needed.
