One Killed in Tragic South Fulton Motorcycle Crash in South Fulton, Georgia (GA)

SOUTH FULTON, GA- Cbs46.com writes that a crash led to the death of a motorcyclist in Fulton County this week. The incident occurred on West Road in South Fulton. According to police reports, the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound when a westbound vehicle drifted across the centerline, striking the motorcycle head-on.*

The motorcyclist died at the scene of the crash. The investigation is still underway. Reports did not include information regarding whether charges will be filed against the driver. 

Georgia ranks eighteenth in the nation in terms of deadly motorcycle crashes. In 2017, 139 motorcyclists were killed in the state. The numbers do not surprise many in the region as the south tends to have higher numbers of these crashes simply because the weather permits riding throughout more of the year. The result is that there are more bikes on the road, and therefore, more crashes. 

Other states that rank high on the list of such crashes include Texas, South Carolina, and Mississippi. 

Many motorcyclists point out that a large number of these crashes involve people in cars failing to notice people on motorcycles. Those who ride want drivers to remember to be on the lookout for motorcycles. 

Of course, there are ways to increase the visibility of a motorcycle so that drivers are less likely to overlook these smaller vehicles. A brightly colored motorcycle is one way, along with bright clothing and safety gear. Some even recommend using the high beams during the day in an effort to make the bike more noticeable. When riding, it is best to try to avoid the blind spots of other drivers in order to prevent them from causing a crash. In a pinch, using the horn to remind drivers of the presence of a motorcycle can also help increase safety.
