Car Collides with Townhome in West Ashley, South Carolina (SC)

April 01, 2020

WEST ASHLEY, SC- Counton2.com writes that a car struck a townhome in West Ashley this week. The crash occurred in the late morning on Shadow Arbor Circle. Two people were injured in the incident. Reports indicate that the person driving the vehicle was transported to the hospital as was a person in the townhome at the time of the crash. It is not clear what caused the accident. *

Drivers crash into buildings more frequently than many people realize. In fact, these wrecks kill about 500 people each year. About 60 times each day, a driver strikes a building. These incidents not only kill hundreds of people, but they also injure thousands more. Most car into building wrecks are the result of drivers making errors. Operator errors cause 22 percent of these collisions, while pedal errors cause another nineteen percent of car into building wrecks. Pedal errors involve a driver mistaking the gas pedal for the brake. Drunk driving incidents lead to sixteen percent of crashes, and ten percent are the result of car crashes. Nine percent are caused by medical episodes, and six percent are intentional ramraid crashes involving robberies.

These crashes are preventable and are often the result of poorly designed roads or parking lots. Some safety advocates state that cars should not be traveling too close to buildings. For instance, when parking lots are designed with cars parking nose-in facing directly at buildings, there is a large risk of a mishap ending with a car driving right into a wall or business. Another problem is parking lots with wide lanes that allow cars to travel at high speeds. More narrow lanes encourage slower speeds.
