Tragic Crash Reported in Gwinnett County, Georgia

Crash related deaths in Georgia declined by more than two percent in 2018. In 2017, 1,540 people died in car accidents in the state of Georgia. The number dropped to 1,504 in 2018. While the decline is an encouraging sign that the number of fatal accidents in the state is dropping, officials point out that the fact that more than 1,500 people lost their lives in car crashes is not something that can be accepted.

The state points out that the dropping number of fatalities is not universal and that pedestrians are dying in higher numbers each year. Between 2017 and 2018, the number of pedestrian deaths in the state rose from 253 to 261. More alarming than the slight increase from 2017 to 2018 is the fact that the number of pedestrian deaths rose by a shocking 60 percent over the last five years. Officials again state that the likely reason for the increase in distractions caused by smartphones. Officials state that drivers and pedestrians should be more focused on the road and less on their phones.
