Fatal Accident on Woodruff Farm Road in Columbus, Georgia
COLUMBUS, GA- Wtvm.com writes that a fatal incident occurred when a woman crashed her car on Woodruff Farm Road in Columbus, Georgia. The coroner now released the cause of death for the 26-year-old victim. Reports indicate that the woman died from blunt force trauma.*
The strange course of events began when the victim was involved in a crash and pulled her vehicle to the side of the roadway. The young woman exited her car and was walking around the vehicle when another driver collided with a guy-wire on the opposite side of the street. The wire snapped and caused a utility pole near the victim to break and fall onto the woman.
Following the investigation, the reports indicate that the actual cause of death was from injuries that the victim suffered in the crash, not ones she sustained when she was struck by the pole.
Car crashes killed 1,504 people in Georgia in 2018. The numbers marked a decline as compared to the previous year. The state is hoping to reduce the number of collisions and dangers on the road. In 2018, the state enacted a ban on handheld electronics preventing drivers from using their phones while in the car. The state believes that the law is helping them cut down on the number of fatal collisions. However, with more than 1,500 people losing their lives in crashes, the numbers are still far too high.
Additionally, pedestrian collisions are increasing throughout the state. Some in the state believe that pedestrian incidents are also the result of distracted driving. However, pedestrian crashes are rising throughout other parts of the nation as well, and there are multiple causes for the disturbing trend.
