Three Vehicles Involved in Collision on Highway 11 in Dade County, Georgia

March 16, 2020

DADE COUNTY, GA- Newschannel9.com writes that a car crash in Dade County, Georgia, involving three vehicles caused severe injuries for two individuals. The incident occurred on Highway 11 in the afternoon.*

A northbound Mitsubishi crossed over the center line and collided with a southbound Dodge Durango. Reports indicate that in total, three vehicles were involved in the wreck. Two people were hospitalized, but their injuries are not considered life-threatening. The driver of the Mitsubishi is now facing charges for the collision.

Drivers frequently cross over the center line on undivided roadways. Only a minor distraction is required for a person to lose control of their vehicle, and veer across a painted line. This can happen in a fraction of a second. Head-on crashes are one of the ways that completely innocent and responsible drivers end up dying in car accidents. When a car traveling in the opposite direction suddenly drifts into a driver’s lane, that motorist will often have no time to react to avoid the collision. Even attentive drivers may simply not have the time necessary to swerve out of the way.

The impact involved in such wrecks is often violent. Studies conducted as part of a Vision Zero initiative found that when cars are traveling just 43 miles per hour, the risk of a head-on impact killing the occupants in the vehicles is high. While this speed may seem modest, when cars are traveling towards one another, the forces at play are intense. Seat belts will reduce the risk of death in any collision, but in head-on crashes at these speeds, the risk of internal organ damage is significant.
