Tragic Manning Crash Kills One, Injures Two in Manning, South Carolina

March 16, 2020

MANNING, SC- Manninglive.com writes that a driver caused a deadly wreck in Manning this week in a crash that occurred overnight. The incident took place on Highway 521, close to its intersection with Mallett Road when a Jeep Liberty SUV crossed the center line in the roadway and struck a tractor-trailer head-on.*

There were two individuals in the Jeep when the wreck took place. The driver survived, and responders rushed her to the McLeod Health Clarendon for treatment of injuries. A passenger in the SUV died at the scene. Reports have not yet identified the victim. The man operating the tractor-trailer suffered injuries as well. He was also rushed to McLeod Health Clarendon.

The woman driving the Jeep has since been arrested for felony DUI.

Drunk drivers still cause a high number of fatal crashes in the United States each year. For decades, safety advocates have been educating the public about the dangers of drunk driving, and laws have been entered and enforced to discourage people from getting behind the wheel while drunk. The efforts have been successful in greatly reducing the number of drunk drivers on the road, but have not been able to eliminate the problem. Currently, about 29 percent of deadly car accidents are caused by motorists who are drunk. Over 10,000 lives are lost every year because of this dangerous and irresponsible behavior. South Carolina is among the worst states in the country when it comes to deadly drunk driving crashes. Recent reports indicate that the state comes in fifth, although some earlier numbers found South Carolina in second place for the most fatal DUI incidents.
