Driver Facing Charges in Tragic Wreck in Dacula, Georgia

February 27, 2020

DACULA, GA- writes that a driver is now facing charges for his role in a crash that killed a 27-year-old motorcyclist. The incident occurred this week in the evening. The victim was traveling eastbound on Braselton Highway on a white motorcycle. As the biker approached the intersection with Hamilton Creek Parkway, a driver traveling westbound in a white Chevrolet Tahoe attempted to make a left turn and cut into the path of the motorcycle.*

The victim was transported to the hospital, where he died one day after the crash. The 63-year-old man driving the Chevy is facing charges for failure to yield while turning left and for vehicular homicide. While police have not placed the man under arrest, they state that he has been made aware of the charges that he is facing.

Motorcyclists face many risks on the road as compared to other motorists. The risk of being killed is about twice as high when a person is riding a motorcycle as it is when he or she is inside of a passenger vehicle. Sadly, a large part of the risk actually comes from other drivers on the road. Drivers who fail to yield to motorcycles are common and frequently create a potentially deadly situation for the bikers.

Left turning cars are one of the main killers of bikers. When a driver is waiting to turn left, he or she will look for oncoming traffic. However, these motorists are typically looking for other cars or trucks and not for small two-wheeled vehicles. Motorcyclists can help reduce the risk of being killed by wearing bright or reflective clothes while riding.
