Man Finds Support from Community After Hit-and-Run Crash in Naples, Florida
NAPLES, FL- Amp.naples.com writes that a man suffered minor injuries after being trapped by debris when a car came crashing through the wall of his home this week. The victim, who lives on 52nd Street Southwest and 28th Pace Southwest, described to reporters the moment he woke up covered in drywall and wood.*
A truck had collided with the 67-year-old man’s home, causing severe damage. The driver was operating a Ford F150 pickup truck at the time. The damage done to the house is extensive, and the injured owner stated that he is still depressed by the events. The pickup truck crashed through the garage and into the bedroom leaving wreckage in its wake. The driver who caused the incident fled the scene on foot and has not yet been apprehended by the police.
The victim says his neighbors stepped up to help him. Some people worked to clean the garage and bedroom, where debris from the wreck was covering the ground. It took hours to fill a dumpster with the debris. In addition to helping clear the home, one neighbor is working to collect donations for the homeowner to help repair the structure.
The incident marks the second time that a car struck the victim’s home. The last time a similar occurrence took place was around fifteen years ago. The owner is not sure whether or not the reason for the collisions is because of the traffic control situation at a nearby intersection. The crash also destroyed the victim’s two cars, one which was in the driveway and another that was parked in the garage. Police stated that the incident is still under investigation, but that charges are pending.
