Tragic Collision in Forest Park Kills Three
FOREST PARK, GA- 11alive.com writes that a collision between three vehicles killed two of the drivers and left a thirteen-month old and one other individual as the only survivors. The incident occurred in the evening on Forest Parkway. The child, who also suffered injuries in the collision, was transported to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston Hospital.*
Reports indicate that a Chevrolet Corvette was traveling eastbound when it drove over a median and collided with a Ford Fiesta that was traveling the opposite direction. The baby was in that vehicle with a 44-year-old woman and a 63-year -old man. The two adult occupants in that car died in the wreck. The Corvette then collided with a Ford Expedition that was driving westbound.
The 54-year-old man in the Corvette was ejected from his vehicle and died. The driver in the Expedition sustained injuries but survived the crash. Police have not stated why the driver lost control of the vehicle and crossed the median. The images from the crash scene indicate that all of the involved vehicles are severely mangled, and debris from the crash is covering the roadway.
Vehicle ejections are extremely likely to result in fatalities. About three out of four people involved in these collisions will die from their injuries. The best way to reduce a person’s chance of being ejected in a crash is to use a seatbelt. Seatbelts not only keep a driver in the vehicle, but they also ensure that a person is in the right place for the airbag to deploy and protect that vehicle occupant. Airbags and seatbelts save lives, but they work best when they are both used.
