Motor Vehicle Wreck Kills Two in Macon, Georgia
MACON, GA- 13wmaz.com writes that two men died in a collision that took place over the weekend in Houston County. The victims have been identified as a 33-year-old man from Centerville and a 49-year-old man from Byron. The younger of the two victims was reportedly driving the car.*
Reports indicate that the victims were traveling on Highway 41, approaching its intersection with Feagin Mill Road when the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a ditch. The car then collided with a tree-killing one of the victims at the scene. The other man was transported to the hospital but later died of his injuries. Witnesses say that the driver was traveling northbound in the evening before the wreck. It is not clear why the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Fixed object collisions kill about one out of every five vehicle accident victims in the United States each year. The object most of these motorists collide with is a tree. Other objects commonly involved in these incidents include utility poles and traffic barriers.
About 50 percent of fixed object crashes take place at night, and many are the result of a drunk driver. The IIHS states that in 2018, 40 percent of fixed object collisions, the motorist had a blood-alcohol level that was above the legal limit. Men have a greater likelihood of being involved in these types of accidents. About eight out of every ten drivers who died in fixed object crashes in 2018 were men. In total, 7,422 people lost their lives in fixed object wrecks in 2018. While the numbers remain high, there was a six percent decrease between 2017 and 2018.
