Two Individuals in Nebraska Fall Sick After Ingesting Drinks Containing Cleaning Solution

LA VISTA, NE- The ncadvertiser.com writes that two people became ill following ingesting drinks at a bar in Nebraska movie theater. Reports indicate that the beverages contained a cleaning solution.*

The victims, both women, ages 45 and 51, sipped their drinks and immediately felt burning in their throats and stomachs. Both women had difficulty breathing and were transported to the hospital. A server who also tasted the drinks experienced similar symptoms and was hospitalized as well. Police stated that the bar had been storing cleaning solution in an old liquor bottle and that the bottle had been placed by the liquor. The solution is used to clean the lines of the taps and beer kegs. Officers believe the incident was a mistake, not intentional poisoning, but stated that the consequences could have been severe. 

The company stated that the poisoning was truly awful and that the use of the bottle to store the cleaning solution was not in line with the company’s procedures. The employee who caused the mix up has since been fired, and the company is working on training its staff to ensure no similar mistakes occur. 

A report has been sent to the State Liquor Control Commission, and an investigation will be carried out. The Nebraska State Patrol is also looking into the incident and working to ensure that there was no intentional conduct involved. A Sarpy County State’s Attorney stated that people should be able to expect that their food and drinks are safe for consumption. Policies in place at restaurants and bars should prevent these kinds of events from occurring.
