Car Suspected in Tragic Staples Mill Road Hit-and-Run Crash located by Officers
HENRICO, VA- Wric.com writes that a vehicle wanted in connection with a tragic pedestrian crash in Henrico has been located. Police found the green Ford Expedition or Explorer but are still looking for the driver.*
The incident occurred on Staples Mill Road during the evening late last week. The victim, a 44-year-old man from Henrico, died at the scene of the crash. One of the drivers who struck the man stayed at the scene and called emergency services. Another vehicle also struck the man and then fled. Police believe the car was a green SUV, which they have now located.
Pedestrians are the victims in most fatal hit-and-run crashes. Sadly, about one out of every five drivers who strikes a pedestrian leaves the scene of the crash. When a driver flees, they often leave the victim helpless, and, in some instances, a person who may have survived with immediate medical care is left to die on the road.
As pedestrian deaths are rising, so are fatal hit-and-run crashes. Fleeing drivers often tend to be drunk, impaired by drugs, or otherwise violating the law. These motorists often know that they are likely to face severe consequences for being involved in a crash. Witnesses are often the best way for police to track down these offenders. In many cases, surveillance cameras also help investigators identify vehicles that were in the area at the time of the collision.
