Tragic Stewart County Crash on Georgia 39 Kills One
STEWART CRASH, GA- Wrbl.com writes that a fatal collision took place on Georgia 39 late last week. The incident led to the death of a 39-year-old man from Buena Vista, Georgia. Reports indicate that the crashes occurred in the late morning when the driver of a log truck veered into oncoming traffic. The victim attempted to correct but overturned the truck and landed on his side.*
The truck driver died in the crash. No other vehicles were struck in the incident. The authorities shut down the roadway for several hours while they cleared the scene.
Large truck crashes increased last year, even as other types of vehicle occupant fatalities declined. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that vehicle technology is helping to reduce the number of deadly collisions that take place around the country. As a result of more sophisticated crash avoidance technology, many collisions that might have occurred are not taking place, and fewer people are dying.
Sadly, the benefits of such technology are not universal. Pedestrian collisions and large truck crashes are becoming more frequent and killing more individuals. The same technology available in passenger vehicles will hopefully be included in many large trucks as well. These systems can help the driver maintain their lanes, the distance between their vehicle and others on the road, and will alert drivers if they approach another vehicle too quickly. While some trucks are being fitted with such systems, it is too soon to say whether the technology will start changing the tide of truck crashes. Experts hope that the advanced systems will help lower all forms of traffic-deaths.
