Driver Killed in Tragic Atlanta Car Crash

January 25, 2020

ATLANTA, GA- writes that a driver died in a two-car crash in Atlanta earlier this week. The incident took place on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in the early evening. Emergency services responded to the crash site and found one of the drivers unresponsive. EMTs declared the person dead at the scene.*

The driver of the other vehicle involved suffered injuries, and responders transported that individual to the hospital where he or she is anticipated to recover. Police are still investigating the wreck, and the identities of those involved have not yet been released.

The state of Georgia is attempting to improve traffic patterns and safety on its roadways. In 2018, the legislature enacted a hands-free law that prevents drivers from using their phones while driving. The law goes beyond a ban on texting and makes it easier for police to enforce. Reports indicate that the number of fatal crashes dropped after the law went into effect.

Georgia is also looking to make its roads safer through the use of new technology. The city of Atlanta is being equipped with updated smart traffic lights, which will help improve the flow of traffic while also making the roads safer for motorists and pedestrians. The new traffic signals can communicate with vehicles by alerting them when the light is about to change, when a pedestrian is coming, and even when a driver is about to violate a red light. In addition to helping improve traffic safety in the short term, the devices will be used to facilitate self-driving vehicles. Officials in the state hope to make Georgia a center of innovation. In the process, the roads may become far safer for everyone.
