Connecticut Mayor’s Daughter Sustains Injuries in Tragic Crash in Florida

January 19, 2020

WATERBURY, CT- writes that a fatal collision involving a girl’s rowing team in Florida injured the daughter of the Mayor of Waterbury. The horrific wreck took place earlier this week in Florida when the team was on its way to practice. A van carrying several of the College of the Holy Cross students collided with a Dodge truck at an intersection, killing the twenty-year-old sophomore.*

The victim, who was originally from Uxbridge, Massachusetts, graduated high school in 2018 and was set to graduate college in 2022. The incident occurred in the early morning when the van was turning left. The truck crashed into the right side of the van, killing the girl who was sitting in the front passenger seat. The young woman, who celebrated her birthday the day before being killed, had been her high school team captain and set a world record for rowing 62 straight hours on an indoor machine last December. The college released a statement and stated that it is offering support to the students, coaches, and families affected by this tragedy.

Reports indicate that the van was one of two carrying the girls to their pre-season practice. The van that was not involved was behind the first van, and those students witnessed the crash. In total, thirteen people sustained injuries in the wreck, and at least three were reported to be in critical condition. A GoFundMe page started for the team has already raised $128,000 to help with the students’ medical bills and related expenses. Images of the scene show the devastating damage to the van’s passenger side near the front of the vehicle.
