Interstate 75 Collisions in Bibb County Involving Multiple Vehicles Leads to Injuries

January 18, 2020

BIBB COUNTY, GA- writes that two crashes occurred in Bibb County on Interstate 75 in the morning earlier this week. One crash happened in the southbound lanes and the other in the northbound lanes. Responders say that the two crashes were not related to one another.*

The collision in the southbound lanes took place when one vehicle rear-ended another car. The other crash occurred because a vehicle’s tire blew out. Three cars were involved in that wreck, which happened in the northbound traffic lanes. The early morning incidents slowed traffic in both directions. According to police, at least one person sustained injuries. There is no word yet as to the severity of the injuries or the identity of the victim.

Rainfall is Responsible For the Largest Number of Deadly Accidents

When multiple collisions occur near one another at about the same time, the cause is often the weather. Slippery roads caused by rain, ice, or snow make driving dangerous, and sometimes a bad bout of weather will lead to multiple wrecks in close proximity to one another. When it comes to weather events, rain causes the largest number of deadly crashes.

Another factor that can lead to clusters of accidents is rubbernecking. When one collision takes place, the site of that crash can become a distraction for others on the road. Drivers passing the disabled vehicles may find it tempting to look and try to determine what transpired. The traffic congestion and backed up vehicles add to the risk because more cars on the road mean a greater opportunity for someone to make a mistake. It is crucial that drivers keep their eyes on the road at all times and resist the urge to look at wrecks or other forms of roadway distractions.
