Careless Driver Injures Three on Highway 111 in Overton County, Tennessee
OVERTON COUNTY, TN- Herald-citizen.com writes that a 21-year-old driver is now facing charges related to his role in a severe car crash that occurred late last week in Overton County.*
The driver, a young man from Cookeville, was northbound on Highway 111 when he rear-ended another vehicle that was slowing down to make a left turn. The other motorist, a 46-year-old woman from Algood, and her passengers, a 74-year-old woman from Algood and a 53-year-old man also from Algood, all sustained injuries in the wreck.
The victim’s vehicle was pushed onto a median by the impact. The 21-year-old is now facing charges for failing to exercise due car. Reports indicate that the young man did not sustain injuries in the crash and that he was able to pull over to the side of the roadway.
Rear-end accidents are typically due to driver inattention. Drivers who are looking at something other than the roadway, in many cases their phones, are more likely to fail to see traffic slowing in front of them. In other instances, a driver may be alert, but traveling too fast and too close to the vehicle in front of him or her to slow down in the event of an emergency.
While the majority of rear-end collisions are minor, the more severe wrecks can lead to fatal consequences. Cautious and attentive driving can eliminate the risk of these collisions, but in reality, many drivers will continue to drive without the appropriate care and attention. Many hope that crash avoidance technology will work to eliminate or at least greatly reduce these crashes. About 1,700 lives could be saved every year by preventing rear-end accidents.
