Tragic Crash Kills Two Men in LaGrange, Alabama

January 15, 2020

MACON COUNTY, AL- writes that two men died in a tragic collision in Macon County over the weekend. The crash took place early in the morning on Interstate 85. The victims were identified as a 59-year-old man and a 69-year-old man.*

The men were both traveling in an Isuzu Rodea when a Buick Century struck them, causing their SUV to veer off the road and rollover. Both victims in the Isuzu died at the scene of the crash.

The person operating the Buick also sustained injuries in the collision, and responders transported that individual to a nearby hospital. State Troopers are still investigating the deadly crash.

Rollover crashes cause about 30 percent of all fatal collisions despite only around three percent of all crashes involving a vehicle flipping over. The violent forces in play when a vehicle overturns often cause victims to be ejected. These types of crashes are more common in tall vehicles such as SUVs or other light trucks than they are in lower to the ground cars such as sedans. Most rollovers involve just one car leaving the roadway and turning over.

Lower speeds can help reduce the likelihood of being involved in a rollover accident, as can maintaining proper tire pressure. Newer models of SUVs have better rollover protection than older models. Wearing a seatbelt at all times helps to lessen the risk of being thrown from a vehicle. About 75 percent of victims who are ejected in crashes will die from their injuries. Seatbelts also keep occupants in place when a crash occurs, meaning that other safety features, such as airbags, will be positioned in such a way as to provide maximum protection in a wreck.
