Vehicle Strikes Pedestrian in Cedartown, Georgia Causing Injuries

December 16, 2019

CEDARTOWN, GA- Mdjonline.com writes that a vehicle hit a pedestrian in the evening late last week. The victim suffered injuries, but the extent of the harm is not yet known. Responders rushed the individual to the Floyd Medical Center in Rome where that person is receiving treatment.*

Police say the vehicle was a Ford Explorer that was heading south at the time of the incident. According to the report, the victim had on dark clothing, and the crash occurred after dark.

While pedestrians are dying at the highest rate in decades, some people are pointing to a disturbing trend in reporting of accidents and in how police treat the victims in pedestrian crashes. In many cases, police seem to blame the victim when a car strikes a pedestrian. Reports say that the person was not visible to the driver, crossed outside of a crosswalk, or otherwise deemed to be at fault for their own injuries or death.

Often, in many cases, pedestrians are unable to tell their side of how the accident happened because they are taken away by ambulance before speaking to police. When the victim is viewed as being at fault, then it might seem that there is nothing that can be done to change the situation, and pedestrian accidents are just an unavoidable part of life. Of course, there are plenty of ways to prevent pedestrian accidents. Sometimes people are in the street because they are walking in an area where there are no sidewalks or crosswalks, and the person needs to walk to get to his or her destination. Installing more pedestrian-friendly street designs could make people safer.
