YOUNGSTOWN, FL- Wjhg.com writes that a woman died in a crash in Youngstown earlier this week. The collision took place in the evening on Highway 2301. The woman was a passenger in a truck that was traveling towards the intersection with Commander Lee Lane when the driver apparently was moving erratically. The truck then veered off the road and hit an RV that was parked and abandoned on the roadside.*
The victim, identified as a 46-year-old woman from Bonifay, died in the wreck. The driver sustained injuries in the accident.
Single-vehicle run-off the road crashes cause a high number of fatalities each year. About twenty percent of fatal crashes involve just one vehicle leaving the roadway. Of course, most of these accidents are entirely avoidable. Drivers who leave the roadway typically made one of several common errors. Run-off the road crashes typically involve drunk drivers, drowsy drivers or drivers who are distracted. Many of these crashes also involve a driver who was speeding at the time of the accident. When a vehicle is traveling faster, it is more likely that the driver will lose control over the vehicle.
While certain factors such as the weather might make these collisions more likely, even in these cases, the driver was often traveling too fast for the road conditions.
Objects along the road make for more risks for drivers who might drift off the road. Many fatal accidents involve drivers striking fixed objects. Trees, signs, and utility posts along the road can end up involved in deadly accidents. Some experts recommend that objects be placed a certain distance from the road in order to limit these risks.
