Two Hospitalized in Crash on Jaycee Shack Road in Valdosta, Georgia

December 08, 2019

VALDOSTA, GA- writes that a late morning crash injured two people in Valdosta earlier this week. The collision led to delays in traffic in the area.*

Police report that the collision involved two vehicles at the intersection of Jaycee Shack Road and Inner Perimeter Road. A car heading northbound struck a vehicle that was heading east.

Responders rushed both occupants to the South Georgia Medical Center. The authorities shut the area down for the investigation.

Side impact collisions are some of the most devastating accidents on the road. These crashes often occur at intersections when one of the involved vehicles violates a stop sign or traffic signal.

When it comes to any multiple-vehicle accident, part of what will determine the severity of the crash is the size of the vehicles involved. For instance, bigger cars tend to fare better in multiple vehicle crashes. While SUVs may have higher risks of being involved in rollovers and single-vehicle accidents than small sedans, a collision between the SUV and the small sedan will typically not end well for the person or people in the smaller car. Of course, there are a number of factors, including the type of crash, the type of vehicle and its safety features, and whether the people in the car are using their seatbelts.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reported that in 2017, nearly one out of every four car crash-related fatalities occurred in side-impact collisions. Side-airbags do lower the risk of a driver dying in a crash by 37 percent in sedans and about 52 percent for SUVs. However, when another vehicle's bumper strikes just inches from a vehicle occupant, the results are often severe even with side-airbags.
