Tragic Crash Kills Two on Highway 52 in Davie County, North Carolina

December 04, 2019

DAVIE COUNTY, NC- Thestokesnews.com writes that a single-vehicle wreck killed to men in Davie County late last week. The victims were traveling on Highway 52 in a pickup truck. The vehicle was carrying a full load of cinderblocks.*

As the truck headed southbound, the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail in a median on the road. The truck rolled over, and the three occupants all flew out of the vehicle.

Police identified the two men killed as a 54-year-old man and a 47-year-old man, both from Mocksville. The third person in the vehicle, a 49-year-old woman from Mocksville, survived being ejected from the truck, and responders rushed her to the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment.

The collision occurred during the afternoon, and the authorities shut down all lanes of the road while crews worked to clear the scene.

Pickup trucks and SUVs are popular in America. Sedans have gone out of style, causing many car manufacturers to discontinue models of vehicles that, until recently, were highly popular throughout the country. Taller and larger vehicles tend to provide occupants greater protection when they are involved in multiple-vehicle crashes. One downside of these vehicles is that they are more prone to rolling over.

Rollover crashes kill thousands of people every year. Many victims in these crashes are thrown from their vehicle as it flips. Occupants have about a one out of four chance of surviving a collision in which they are thrown from their vehicle.

The best way to avoid being ejected in the unfortunate event of a rollover accident is to use a seatbelt. About 69 percent of people who are killed in rollover crashes failed to buckle up. Seatbelts drastically cut down on the chances of being ejected in a car crash or rollover.
