Train and Vehicle Collision Leads to Three Fatalities in Florida

December 02, 2019

JUPITER, FL- Menafn.com writes that three people died in a crash between an Amtrak train and a vehicle over the weekend. There were 200 people on the New York-bound train at the time of the accident. No one aboard the train sustained injuries in the wreck. *

Early reports indicate that the driver entered the tracks when the train was approaching. The direct cause of the incident is not yet known.

Police identified the victims as a grandmother and her two grandchildren, ages ten and eight. The three were reportedly on their way to a camping trip at the time of the tragic crash.

The vehicle sustained intense damage to its side when the train struck. The impact pushed the 2018 Subaru Outback half a mile before stopping. The crossing where the incident occurred is marked only with yield signs.

Two other fatal crashes happened on the same Amtrak route since last June. One was a pedestrian crash; the other collision killed a cyclist.
