Multiple-Vehicle Accident Causes Major Traffic Delays on Interstate 85 Near Pleasantdale Road
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – According to online news reports at usnews.com and ajc.com, a multiple-vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 85, leading to serious traffic delays out of the northeastern Atlanta suburbs.*
The accident occurred south of Jimmy Carter Boulevard and gridlocked the roadway, causing a four-hour delay out of DeKalb, Hall, and Gwinnett counties. Multiple lanes southbound were blocked for several hours. The gridlock stretched nine miles back before Pleasant Hill Road, where, at one point, the average speed on Interstate 85 southbound was three miles per hour.
Following the accident, things remained slow for the remaining part of the morning commute. By 9 a.m., the ride from Georgia Highway 316 to Interstate 285 was 34 minutes. Drivers, as a result of the crash, crowded onto Lawrenceville Highway, Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, and Buford Highway in order to avoid the traffic delays.
All lanes of the roadway have since reopened.
